Buying a computer or laptop

Guys listen up.......

We are all familiar with how important a computer is to every college kid and the thoughts of being without a computer for even a week seems pretty scary! So heres a few words of wisdom to bear in mind when buying a pc or laptop.

1. The most dominant factor to us poor students.....funds available!!!

We obviously cant afford to be spending thousands and millions on the latest gadgets, software and most un-user friendly pc so lets be realistic, set a budget and stick to it :).

A basic laptop with most standard features can range from anything between €650-€1100. Also if buying your pc online shipping costs can also add on a bit of extra costs.

2. Speed

Obviously your going to need a pc that will work quick and efficiently and one that will not get in the way of you finishing those college assignments on time ;)

We must remember that if you opt to buy a laptops they are 30-100% slower than a desktop with the same features (CPU, RAM, hard drive capacity, etc.).

I found out that slower CPUs, motherboards, hard drives, and video systems and any other add on's all contribute to the speed loss.

3.RAM

Basically this is random access memory and is by all means necessary in the running of your laptop or pc.

The RAM process all of your tasks and graphics on the laptop. You must make sure you have enough for your needs your require on the pc. Many laptops are sold with 1 Gig of RAM (basic) as high as 4 Gigs and more (swish!).

However it is possible to buy laptops with an expandable memory so you can adapt your applications and programmes that place a high demand on your laptop's RAM.

articles and technology

http://www.4hearingloss.com/archives/2005/07/listen_ipods_ca.html

Guys read this 'cos us music fans are in major trouble!!!

This articles discusses the effects of ipods on the hearing of young people. The article details the damage us young people are causing to our eardrums because of listening to ipods at volume levels that arent safe and for really long lengths of time.

This potentially will cause eventual loss of hearing! I found this quite shocking that despite knowing these obvious health risks most of us will ignore this and continue blasting our choons at dangerous levels (example the annoying people on the bus with odd tastes in music that you can hear what theyre listening to even though your five seats behind). I was quite surprised to learn that almost 5 million young people in America have experienced hearing loss due to volumes of mp3 players that evoke constant loud noises.

So cmon lads lower down the ipods because you might not be able to hear those banging toons at all if you keep blaring 'em!!!!

http://www.gadgetell.com/tech/comment/scammers-post-fake-job-ads-sell-resumes/

Quite a scary article here guys!
This article deals with cybercrime and how it is newly targeting job seekers and recruiters alike. From reading this I learned how those sick scammers are setting up fake advertisments for jobs, so unsuspecting unemployed workers would apply for the seemingly promosing offer while the scammer uses their details to sell to recruiters and in turn make money for their greedy selves.

I found this most shocking as it is affecting such vulnerable people and exploiting them. How scary is this like after all we are living through a recession and jobs are like gold dust lately. This article also draws attention to how scammers will use all personal details given by the job seeker for phising purposes a serious aspect of cyber crime used today.

Word to the wise and always be careful when posting any personal info to any website.
