Buying a computer or laptop

Guys listen up.......

We are all familiar with how important a computer is to every college kid and the thoughts of being without a computer for even a week seems pretty scary! So heres a few words of wisdom to bear in mind when buying a pc or laptop.

1. The most dominant factor to us poor students.....funds available!!!

We obviously cant afford to be spending thousands and millions on the latest gadgets, software and most un-user friendly pc so lets be realistic, set a budget and stick to it :).

A basic laptop with most standard features can range from anything between €650-€1100. Also if buying your pc online shipping costs can also add on a bit of extra costs.

2. Speed

Obviously your going to need a pc that will work quick and efficiently and one that will not get in the way of you finishing those college assignments on time ;)

We must remember that if you opt to buy a laptops they are 30-100% slower than a desktop with the same features (CPU, RAM, hard drive capacity, etc.).

I found out that slower CPUs, motherboards, hard drives, and video systems and any other add on's all contribute to the speed loss.

3.RAM

Basically this is random access memory and is by all means necessary in the running of your laptop or pc.

The RAM process all of your tasks and graphics on the laptop. You must make sure you have enough for your needs your require on the pc. Many laptops are sold with 1 Gig of RAM (basic) as high as 4 Gigs and more (swish!).

However it is possible to buy laptops with an expandable memory so you can adapt your applications and programmes that place a high demand on your laptop's RAM.
